Great Black and White Photographers PART 2

Jerry N. Uelsman is an American photographer and he was born on June 11, 1934. He was apart of the early exponent of photographers in the 20th century in the US. His work involves darkroom effects foreshadowed with the use of Adobe Photoshop to make imaginative photos. He went to Rochester Institute of Technology (1957) and  Indiana University Bloomington to pursue his career.  He also began teaching photography at the University of Florida in 1960. He creates surreal, spiritual, and provoking images using the mastery of photomontage. The photographs are analyzed and explored through the process of darkroom techniques. Uelsmann has received a variety of awards including, the Guggenheim Fellowship award in 1967 and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship award in 1972. Uelsmann is still alive at the age of 84, but is retired from teaching.
