On March 4th, 2019 a 9th grader at Bowie High School earned that Student of the Month Award for her high grades and outstanding final grades, as well as serving in clubs and participating in outside of school activities. The students name is Naana Asante- Ferris and she received a trophy for her university grades and high GPA. Asante-Ferris has earned the award before, last year for participating in a school wide academic program, but she wasn't expecting to receive the award once again.

Freshman Naana Asante-Ferris was recently made Student of the Month at Bowie High School.
She won the award before last year for outstanding final grades.

"We decided to chose Naana as Student of the Month because she shoes hard work and dedication in her classes and we want to award her for that," counselor Kim Gilbert said.

Asante-Ferris is a diligent hard worker said by all of her peers and family members and doesn't miss a night of studying. She made sure to mainly focus on school to achieve this award.

"I became student of the month because I made sure I put in a lot of time for school and made sure I got all A's on most of my assignments and tests that I took and work hard on," Naana Asante- Ferris said.

Although Asante-Ferris used up most of her outside of school time on school she didn't get much of a chance to hang out with friends or go to fun parties, which she is fine with.

" It [studying] took a lot of time and it requires putting in a lot of time outside of school to study so I would miss out on some fun activities but it will be worth it in the future," Asante-Ferris said.

While winning the award is exciting, Asante-Ferris was worried that she would make her peers jealous by achieving this.

"I am so proud of Naana because she always was trying to get a 95 or above on her exams and projects even though she rarely hung out with us we are not bitter at all because this is what she wanted for awhile and we all wanted to be supportive as her best friends," good friend Paige Johnson said.

Asante- Ferris has hopeful plans in the future involving having a highly successful job as well as going to a pristine university.

"I am very optimistic for the future, especially college because I am hoping to go to either Stanford University, Harvard University, or Rice University," said Asante-Ferris.
