Extra Credit for the Final Exam
1. In New York City a 58 year old Queens resident, Ki Suk Han was pushed into the subway tracks by a panhandler who has been harassing passersby. Han was trying to get the man to calm down and that was what happened in result. Han was struggling to lift himself from the tracks but wasn't strong enough and a freelance photographer named R. Umar Abbasi was present during the tragedy and so he says, he was trying to use his camera flash to warn the subway driver.
2. I think the photographer claims he took the photo because he might want credit for the photo and how he was able to capture it.
3. I do not think the photographer should have taken the photo. I say this because a person's life is more valuable that a photograph.
4. I do not think the photographer did the best thing because he could have easily helped the man up instead of "trying" to warn the subway driver.
5. I disagree with how the New York Post decided to use it as the front page because it is horrifying and disgusting that the photographer did no useful thing to help the man. I do see why they used it as the front page because The New York Post wants attention towards their magazines.
6. I think stopping bad things from happening because you could get a lot of hate from people around the world from not helping someone when their life is at stake, instead thy take photos that will give them attention which isn't always good.
7. I don't think it is acceptable to get involved unless you are helping someone that needs help. Taking photos that involve you to get backlash and extra hate for something is something you should stay out of completely even when takings photos like that.
8. Photojournalists should completely exit out of current events, however they should exit from taking photos with peoples life at stake.
9. There isn't a good appropriate response for this kind of action, but a photographer could say that they were just trying to have proof for the police so they can find whoever pushed Han in the tracks.
